Three-Dimensional Simulations of Scour around Pipelines of Finite Lengths

In the past few decades, there have been many numerical studies on scour around offshore pipelines, most of which concern two-dimensional setups, with pipeline infinitely long and flow perpendicular to pipeline. Based Ansys FLUENT solver, this study establishes a tool three-dimensional pipelines finite lengths. The user-defined functions are written calculate sediment transport rate, update bed elevation, adapt computational mesh new boundary. correctness model has verified against measurements conventional pipe sphere. A series computations subsequently carried out discover how hole is dependent length. It found that equilibrium depth increases length until exceeds four times diameter.
